The first nurses that wore a traditional nurses cap were nuns. In the past, nuns were primarily the women that assisted in medical care. Along with a nursing cap, the nurse of the turn of the century also wore a pinofore apron. This design for a nurses cap is easy to make with a styrofoam bowl, card stock paper, and white tissue paper. The card stock gives the feeling that the nurse hat is starched to glorious stiffness.

2. White tissue paper
3. White card stock

5. White glitter foam paper scrap for making the button at the top of the nurse hat
6. Scotch tape
7. Glue
8. Ruler

Instructions To Make A Nurses Hat Costume With Paper :
1. Start our nurse hat pattern by measuring and cut out 8 - 8.5 inch square pieces of white tissue paper to make the folded nurse cap flaps.
2. Lay two tissue paper squares on top of each other. Fold them into a large triangle.
3. With two of the corners flush across the bottom, fold those corners in, so you have the makings of an envelop, but with the remaining corner still facing up. Tape the fold into place. Repeat for all four pieces, so you will have 4 nurse hat flaps
4. Now determine the front of your nurse cap. Apply glue to the top of the outer edge. Then attach the square bottom of one flap to it. Smooth it out until it sticks. Repeat on the back side.
5. The front nurse hat flap will need to be puffy like puffing up hair bangs on a person. Fold the flap over and attach it near the front top of your bowel with tap. Fold the back flap over making it more flat.
6. Do the same with the remaining two flaps, but do not making them as puffy as the front flap.
7. Now you need to finish your nurses hats by adding the stiff frontal piece. Cut out a strip of card stock about 11 inches X 2 inches.
8. Add a strip of red glitter paper to the top edge and make a medical cross for the center to give your nurse costume some pizzazz!.
9. Apply another line of glue to the top edge and lay the stiff paper around it. You may need to apply a few pieces of tape one at the front and at both ends to give it support while it glues into place.
10. With your white glitter sticker paper make a nurse hat button for the top of your white medical hat and put it into place lake it is holding all of the flaps together.
11. Add combs or make two holes on the sides and tie it onto your head with a string. You can even hot glue it to a flat white head band for the perfect nurses costume at Halloween time!
